Adobe™ Acrobat™ software gives you instant access to documents in their original form, independent of computer platform. With the Acrobat Reader, you can view, navigate, print and present any Portable Document Format (PDF) file.
This Read Me file contains last minute installation instructions and product information for the Acrobat Reader program. The On-line Guide (Acrobat™ Reader Help) also provides essential information to help you begin using Acrobat Reader 2.0.
NOTE: The file named "Apple U.S. Coupon.pdf" included with this distribution is a PDF file that can be opened by Acrobat Reader after it is installed.
INSTALLING ACROBAT READER
===========================
• To install Acrobat Reader 2.0 on your hard drive, double click on the file called "AcroRead.mac" and then follow the instructions on your screen.
• Installation requires approximately 3 MB of free space on the active drive.
• ATM™ LE (a special version of Adobe Type Manager 3.8) is installed with Acrobat Reader 2.0 for use by Acrobat only. ATM LE is placed in the Fonts folder within the Adobe Acrobat 2.0 folder. Installation leaves older versions of ATM™ on your system for use with other applications.
• If ATM LE is removed, Acrobat Reader 2.0 requires ATM version 3.6 or above, not included, to be installed.
• If a version of ATM older than 3.6 is running on your system when you attempt to launch Acrobat Reader, you will see the message "Adobe Type Manager version 3.6 or newer must be installed. Acrobat Reader will now quit." This message will occur even if ATM LE is installed in the Fonts folder within the Adobe Acrobat 2.0 folder. To work around this problem, you can either turn off ATM and restart the Macintosh, which will disable ATM for other applications, or you can replace ATM with ATM LE. However, ATM LE does not support QuickDraw GX, Kanji, 68000-based Macintosh's, and does not have native Power Macintosh code for improved performance on Power Macintosh's. Please call 800-83-FONTS (800-833-6687) for information on the full upgrade to ATM.
To remove an older version of ATM and replace it with ATM LE:
1. Open the System Folder.
2. Drag any files named ~ATM68000, ~ATM68020/030, and ~ATM68020/030/040 to the Trash. Some of these files may not exist.
3. Open the Control Panel.
4. Drag the file named ~ATM™ to the Trash.
5. Close the Control Panel.
6. Close the System Folder.
7. Open the Adobe Acrobat 2.0 folder. Open the Fonts folder within the Adobe Acrobat 2.0 folder.
8. Drag the file named ~ATM LE to the System Folder icon. A message will appear asking if you want to put the file into the Control Panel folder. Click OK.
9. Restart the Macintosh.
• If ATM version 3.7 (ATM GX) is running on your system when you attempt to launch Acrobat Reader, you will see the message "The file 'ATM Font Database' must be in the System Folder. Please re-install ATM. Acrobat™ Reader will now quit." The workaround is the same as for ATM versions older than 3.6. See the bulleted item above.
• Acrobat Reader 2.0 is not compatible with QuickDraw GX. You will need to disable the ATM GX control panel and the QuickDraw GX extension. You can use Extensions Manager from the Control Panel to do this, or remove these files from their locations. If you want to use ATM with applications other than Acrobat Reader, you will need to drag the file named ~ATM LE from the Fonts folder in the Adobe Acrobat 2.0 folder to the closed System folder icon. A message will appear if you want to put the file into the Control Panel folder. Click OK.
• ATM LE allocates approximately 576K of RAM from Multi-Finder memory when it is initialized by Acrobat Reader. If Virtual memory is on, ATM LE cannot use Multi-Finder memory, so an additional 576K memory must be allocated to Acrobat Reader.

Electronic End User License Agreement
NOTICE TO USER:
THIS IS A CONTRACT. BY INSTALLING THIS SOFTWARE YOU ACCEPT ALL THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT.
This Adobe Systems Incorporated ("Adobe") End User License Agreement accompanies an Adobe™ software product and related explanatory written materials ("Software"). The term “Software” shall also include any upgrades, modified versions or updates of the Software licensed to you by Adobe. This copy of the Software is licensed to you as the end user. Please read this Agreement carefully.
Adobe grants to you a nonexclusive license to use the Software, provided that you agree to the following:
1. Use of the Software.
• You may install the Software in a single location on a hard disk or other storage device; install and use the Software on a file server for use on a network for the purpose of permanent installation onto hard disks or other storage devices or use of the Software over such network; and make backup copies of the Software.
• You may make unlimited copies of the Software and give copies to other persons or entities as long as the copies contain this Agreement and the same copyright and other proprietary notices that appear on or in the Software.
2. Copyright. The Software is owned by Adobe and its suppliers, and its structure, organization and code are the valuable trade secrets of Adobe and its suppliers. The Software is also protected by United States Copyright Law and International Treaty provisions. You agree not to modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to discover the source code of the Software. You may use trademarks only to identify printed output produced by the Software, in accordance with accepted trademark practice, including identification of trademark owner’s name. Such use of any trademark does not give you any rights of ownership in that trademark. Except as stated above, this Agreement does not grant you any intellectual property rights in the Software.
3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, or sublicense the Software. You may, however, transfer all your rights to use the Software to another person or entity, provided that you transfer this Agreement with the Software.
4. No Warranty. The Software is being delivered to you AS IS and Adobe makes no warranty as to its use or performance. ADOBE AND ITS SUPPLIERS DO NOT AND CANNOT WARRANT THE PERFORMANCE OR RESULTS YOU MAY OBTAIN BY USING THE SOFTWARE OR DOCUMENTATION. ADOBE AND ITS SUPPLIERS MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO NONINFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS, MERCHANTABILITY, OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE. IN NO EVENT WILL ADOBE OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL OR SPECIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING ANY LOST PROFITS OR LOST SAVINGS, EVEN IF AN ADOBE REPRESENTATIVE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY CLAIM BY ANY THIRD PARTY. 5. Governing Law and General Provisions. This Agreement will be governed by the laws of the State of California, U.S.A., excluding the application of its conflicts of law rules. This Agreement will not be governed by the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, the application of which is expressly excluded. If any part of this Agreement is found void and unenforceable, it will not affect the validity of the balance of the Agreement, which shall remain valid and enforceable according to its terms. You agree that the Software will not be shipped, transferred or exported into any country or used in any manner prohibited by the United States Export Administration Act or any other export laws, restrictions or regulations. This Agreement shall automatically terminate upon failure by you to comply with its terms. This Agreement may only be modified in writing signed by an authorized officer of Adobe.
6. Notice to Government End Users. If this product is acquired under the terms of a: GSA contract- Use, reproduction or disclosure is subject to the restrictions set forth in the applicable ADP Schedule contract; DoD contract- Use, duplication or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (c) (1) (ii) of 252.227-7013; Civilian agency contract- Use, reproduction, or disclosure is subject to 52.227-19 (a) through (d) and restrictions set forth in the accompanying end user agreement.
